From USA Today bestselling author Tracy Lorraine comes a new dark bully college romance.

Blurb:

Scarlett Hunter could run…But she couldn’t hide forever.

The beautiful girl who tempted me.The heartless woman who broke me.

She might have got away, but I haven’t forgotten… or forgiven her.

And I never will.

Because piece by piece, she’s taken away everything I care about.

And for that she’ll pay.

When I claim my crown at Maddison Kings University, I’m going to make sure hers is tarnished.

Scarlett Hunter is about to experience the revenge of a Legend.

My review:

Book One in the new series Maddison Kings University and first in the Letty and Kane trilogy. Told in dual POV by Scarlett ‘Letty’ Hunter and Kane Legend, it is a dark bully college romance. The prequel set 18 months previously gives you an idea of the relationship between Kane and Scarlett. The infamous party they attended that night caused problems for her sister Harley and his brother Kyle. Their side of the story is told in Legend #7 in the Rosewood High series.

At first everything seems revolve around a mistake Kane thinks Letty made and he is out for revenge. He needs to see her pay for what he thinks she did and constantly finds ways to get at her. The biggest problem for both of them is they actually enjoy his method of revenge and start to crave each other. The chemistry between them is explosive and their anger pours off the pages. We get to hear about her mistake and more about why Kane feels so betrayed by her. He positive it all her fault so it is interesting to hear not only Letty’s side but also some of the other characters views on what happened.

Letty had worked so hard to achieve her dream of going to Colombia but the author gradually hints that something happened to her and is the reason she has now transferred to MKU. She feels broken having to start again and has just picked up the courage to interact with her fellow dorm mates. Both Letty and Kane are shocked when they realise both enrolled at the same university. Her coping mechanism with him has always been to hide away but he has always pursued her and has a way of finding her. I liked how she tried to play him at his own game even though she finds it so hard to stand up to him due to the effect he has on her.

“Threaten me all you like. You can’t break what’s already broken.”

The shining light for her when she attends classes is to find her old friends from high school are there. Luca Dunn is the QB and captain of the Panthers, he always looked after her but she’s never told him her history with Kane as Luca hates him. His twin Leon also plays but he is quieter, closed off and serious. Letty had a crush on Luca when they younger but never told him as terrified of losing him as her best friend. The contrast between her feelings for Luca, Leon and Kane certainly add to the mix and could end up a fierce rivalry on and off the pitch!

When Kane wasn’t being mean to everyone we get a glimpse of how determined he is to do well at college and make a new life for Kyle and himself. He has had a hard life and done what was necessary to survive in Harrow Creek but seems to have dug himself into a hole with Victor Harris. As much as he makes you dislike him for all he does to Letty, I did feel sorry for him when he realises Victor never going to hold up his end of their deal. Victor had ruined his childhood and although helped him with Kyle it was sad how manipulative he is to not only Kane but his sons too. Kane certainly brings out all the love – hate feelings for a character especially when the author exposes some of his emotions and back story.

The author leaves the reader with so many unanswered questions not only about Letty and Kane but also the array of secondary characters. There is definitely more going on with the Dunn twins and how involved is Micah with Ellis. I’m very suspicious of Reid especially as there is conflicting information about the brothers dealings. You will be intrigued throughout with everything that goes on and the Panthers haven’t even played a game yet!

The ending builds to a shocking cliffhanger but we do get the reason why Letty left Colombia. I am looking forward to The Deception You Weave #2 as there are still so many mysteries to be unraveled because to me all the characters are cleverly linked in some way to whatever happens between Letty and Kane.
