My 5* Review:

I can’t put into words the emotions I felt while reading this book. I can’t recommend it enough and loved reading about Silas Sinclair and Alanna Jones.

I had previously read the prequel Bittersweet Revenge and although the chapters are worked into Bittersweet Memories, I totally recommend reading it first, as it starts all the mystery and intrigue. I had been left wondering what had happened in the past and how everyone was connected as Catharina had dropped lots of teasers but she answered all the questions in this fantastic book. Get the tissues ready as you will laugh and cry during this stunning story about a couple destined to be together.

Bittersweet Memories is action packed, full of twists and turns and the unexpected, as nothing is as it seems. The book is divided into two parts – the past and the present, as we follow this couple’s true love story. The past describes how they first met when they were at their lowest but an act of kindness bonds them together. Luckily their paths cross again two years later but their circumstances have changed and there are now other things to now consider. Not deterred by events, their friendship develops and turns into love. The past will pull at your heartstrings because what they both go through is devastating and the ending is gut-wrenching.

Fast forward five years and what happened to Silas has moulded him into the man he is now and explains all his actions. He has built up a successful business based on a secret project and gaining his revenge for the past. Fate is finally on his side and thanks to Alanna wanting revenge on her boyfriend, Silas is at the right place at the right time.

Throughout the story Silas dropped hints that Alanna was somehow part of his past and constantly tells her that he wants her and is determined to make her his. His determination is not the only impressive thing about him, he is thoughtful and so considerate. How he manages to be so empathetic to her needs and put his own feelings aside was admirable.

This couple have to endure hardship, heartbreak, outside interference and tragedy but Silas never gives up. I loved his hope and optimism and can see readers fighting over him !!  I felt sad for Alanna trying to cope with the changes in her life, the betrayal and guilt she feels but I liked how determined she was to succeed and make something of herself.

There are some very sweet moments that will stay with you after you’ve finished the book and the ending was exactly what this couple deserved. This has been one of my favourite books of the year so far and I can’t recommend it enough.

This is a remarkable story about a couple who experience a once in a lifetime love and have to find a way to survive everything thrown at them. Thankfully fate is on their side and they get the HEA they were always destined for.
